Welcome to ERA 

Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is a statutory body established in accordance with the Electricity Act 1999 (CAP 145).

The Act empowers ERA to regulate the Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of electrical energy in Uganda.

Investment Opportunities

The large hydropower potential along River Nile is estimated at about 2,000Mw. With only 380MW developed at Kiira and Nalubaale, and 250MW under development at Bujagali, the unexploited potential is over 13000MW.«« Read More »»

Electricity Regulatory Authority is recruiting volunteers for the new regional Electricity Consumers Committees across the country. These regional committees are an expansion of the current division level volunteers that have been working since 2007. The regions have been divided into Jinja Region, Eastern Region, Central Region, Western Region, Northern Region, West Nile Region and the Far West [Covering Fort portal, Kasese, Kyenjojo, Kibale, and Kagadi]. Electricity consumers are encouraged to apply to be part of these teams.

Electricity Regulatory Authority is inviting applications for VOLUNTEERS to become members of the Electricity Consumer Committees (ECCs) in Jinja, Iganga, Mbale, Kapchorwa, Pallisa, Tororo, Busia, Masaka, Mpigi, Lyantonde, Rakai, Kabale, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Bushenyi/Ishaka, Gulu and Lira, Arua, Nebbi, Paidha and Pakwachi, Fort portal, Kasese, Kyenjojo, Kibale, and Kagadi. ERA hosts the Austrian Electricity and Gas Regulatory Authority

Electricity Regulatory Authority was honored to host two high profile guests Dr. Harald Proidl Head of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and Mr. Helmut Sprongl from E-Control, the Austrian utility regulator on a five day the scoping mission in Uganda. E-Control regulates electricity, gas and eco-energy. The two regulators are in the process of working out corporation modalities that will steer growth in regulatory capacity. ERA House Extension

 

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Irene Nuloni on Novement 3rd officially opened ERA House Extention buidling. The Construction which commenced in Jukly 2010 has cost approximately Shs 70 Million. The building which has three floors will house a modern library on the ground floor among other offices.
