Electricity Tariffs The Electricity Act (1999) mandates the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) to, among other things, establish a tariff structure and investigate tariff charges and approve the rates of charges. ERA issued the Electricity (Tariff Code) Regulations, SI No.23/2003, which provides for tariff objectives; principles of tariff calculations; regulation of costs and investments and components in tariff computation. ERA regulates both the levels and structures of the generation tariffs, transmission tariffs, distribution tariffs and isolated grid tariffs. ERA has come up with a document on the tariff determination in the Ugandan electricity sector which outlines the process and methodology for tariff setting in the Ugandan electricity sector. This is a guide to tariff setting in Uganda and it looks at the legal framework for setting and approving tariffs, the tariff setting process, tariff objectives, the tariff structure, tariff differentiation (Time of Use) and the tariff determination methodology.
