Statistics The Uganda Electricity Supply Industry has undergone major reforms which have resulted into the unbundling of the vertically integrated government-owned company (the Uganda Electricity Board (UEB)) into three segments, namely;
The electricity industry currently consists of generation Grid Connected Companies which include;
The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company LTD (UETCL) is the only transmission company and Umeme as the only distribution company. There is one licensed Off-Grid company (West Nile Rural Electrification Company Ltd (Wenreco) which generates and distributes electricity in the districts of Arua, Nebbi, and Phaidha. In addition to the above, there are two asset owning companies, namely; Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL) and Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (UEDCL) which leased their assets to Eskom (U) Ltd and Umeme Ltd respectively. The statistics cover three major periods, the first period 1949-1990, which is a set of UEB growth Statistics; the second data series covers the period 1990-2003 and the third data series covers the period from 2004 to date. This data is divided into Statistics for Grid Connected Companies and Statistics for Off-Grid combined Generation and Distribution Companies.
