NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LICENSE FOR GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY FOR OWN USE AND SALE TO THE NATIONAL GRID
The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has under Section 33 of the Electricity Act 1999, Cap 145, received an Application for a Licence from Kinyara Sugar Works Limited for generation of electricity for own use and sale to the grid. Kinyara Sugar Works Limited is currently operating a 7.5MW turbo alternator in Masindi. The Company is utilizing 2.5MW for own use and intends to sell 5MW to the System Operator, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL). Negotiations for a Power Purchase Agreement for sale of the 5MW are currently ongoing between Kinyara Sugar Works and UETCL. National Environment Management Authority issued a Certificate of Approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment of Kinyara Sugar Works operations in April 2008. View Project Brief

Under Section 35 of the Electricity Act 1999, Cap 145, the Electricity Regulatory Authority hereby invites directly affected parties and local authorities in the areas affected by the project to make comments and lodge objections (if any) on the notice to the Authority within thirty (30) days. Interested parties must submit their written comments, objections or interests by recorded delivery to the reception at ERA House by 4.00pm on Monday, November 10th 2008, for the attention of: THE SECRETARY
